Fern Cottage was once the sweetshop in the pretty village of Stanhoe, just inland from the wonderful North Norfolk coast.  Stanhoe is the perfect location for exploring the country, sea and sights of the area – close to everything and yet peaceful and quiet with a great village pub, picture-perfect pond, children’s playground and beautiful country views.

The cottage has a large farmhouse style kitchen with a range cooker, dishwasher, fridge, freezer and microwave.  There is a big table for family meals and good equipment (and cookbooks) for the keen cook.

There are two sitting rooms, each with a woodburner, one large for family gatherings, with a TV, DVD player and iPod dock, and one small, for cosy evenings by the fire. There are books, maps, DVDs and games to play and WiFi access throughout the house.

Opening off the small sitting room is a bedroom decorated in seaside style with bunk beds for kids.  (Do note that there is limited ceiling height in this room, so the top bunk is not suitable for tall guests.)  There are also a cloakroom and utility area downstairs.

Upstairs there are 3 bedrooms.  The Bird Room has a king-size bed, crisp cotton sheets, cosy duvet with down pillows, and lovely views over the fields and garden.   The Fern Room has twin retro-style beds with hand-made mattresses and lovely linen and is decorated in soft shades of green.  The other bedroom, the Yellow Room, has a traditional king-size bed with a vintage American friendship quilt, fabrics produced by the local St Jude’s Studio and original art on the wall.  It also has its own wash basin which helps with those bathroom queues in the morning!  The family bathroom next door is newly refurbished with a bath and shower over.

Luxury towels are provided, but no beach towels, so please do bring your own if you think you will need them.

Outside there is a peaceful grassy garden (enclosed, so safe for children) with views over fields where sheep graze, and occasional visiting rabbits and ducks on an expedition up from the pond!  There are chairs and a table for outdoor meals and a barbecue for guests to use.  Beside the house there is parking for up to three cars (or that boat!).
